Hi Julia,
With our first son he came to us as a foster child (13 month old). He became crown ward 10 months later, then we waited 9 months before it was finalized. We had a party with just family (aunts, uncle's grandparents). Our son didn't understand what it meant. He just kept saying that the "grudge would say he would be mommy and daddy forever". He was 2 and half.
Last April we received twin boys (6weeks before thier 2nd birthday). They became crown ward Oct1st. Mom signed over her rights (they were going to trial the next week, and she was going to lose anyways. Not capabile of parenting). She signed her rights away ONLY if the boys would stay with us. Which was good (they had even found another home with the boys, but mom said no). They have not been "placed with us to adopt", as we have to have our homestudy updated. (They are only good for 2 years). but they have told us it's about a 2 year wait to have the homestudy updated (it's been almost 8 months now) and there has been NO progress for these boys. My oldest son who is now 4 and half keeps asking when they get to go and see the judge. He is getting antsy and want to share his last name with his brothers. The twins will be 3 (and slightly delayed) don't quite understand what that means.
