Tooth Times Two!

Chalk this one up the Bizarro Hall of Fame, but what are the odds that two of my children would lose a tooth ten minutes apart?

Both have been saying for days that they have wiggly teeth. Both have worked with their loose teeth, given status reports, and have generally been very aware of all things dental. At first, I thought maybe my daughter was trying to copy her older brother. As of late, “copying” has been a huge topic here at Casa Stro. When eating out, she will ask to eat exactly what her older brother eats, sight unseen…and, on several occasions, has lived to regret this choice. She still wears the broken pedometer from the Dollar Spot, to simulate her brother’s insulin pump.

So, when my oldest began complaining of a loose tooth, sissy was there on his heels with a “me, too!” Though it never really seemed like a “competition,” it seemed like whatever status report my oldest gave, his sister wasn’t far behind.

Because the children were sick earlier in the week, we rescheduled my daughter’s therapy appointment, and today was the day we needed to go. As we readied to leave, my oldest asked if he could bring a baggie (“In case my tooth comes out”) and some tissue…there was his sister, asking to do the same. And, off we went.

On the way home, in blecchy traffic, I started getting fast and furious updates about the status of the teeth from both camps. As my son neared the end of his battle of the tooth, his sister began having similar updates.

After several tense minutes of this, my son’s tooth finally came out and everyone rejoiced. However, not ten minutes later, after much physical wrangling from the sound of things in the back seat, my daughter’s tooth came out as well! More rejoicing!

In our family, we don’t do Santa, the Tooth Fairy, or any other made up icons, because “all good gifts come from God,” so the kids generally get to pick out treats for themselves. However, tonight, we gave them something we had been saving for a bit: a dance mat game for two. We thought that since they shared a milestone together, it might be a fun bonding thing to share the “spoils,” so to speak. They were thrilled and had an absolute blast together!
