This morning I’ve been abuzz planning our
homeschooling year. I started going through all the e-mails I’ve saved about the various classes I think the kids would be interested in. I’m humming along, so excited, when all of a sudden – screech – I hit sticker shock!
I’ve been homeschooling one child these last four years. Now I’m looking at three! I manically reached for the calculator and just about passed out! Looks like we’re going to have to do some major economizing!
There is a choral group I know that my songster of a daughter (not to mention total Diva ham!) would love! They have two group performances at the end of the semester, plus there are add-on lessons if you wish to be a soloist.
My oldest has been involved with Lego Robotics for three years now. He’s competed in the
JFLL twice now, and will be moving up to the
FLL division. In addition to the competition, they are slated to begin programming animated Lego videos this year.
He also took Spanish for four years from the most wonderful, loving, caring instructor we could ever have imagined. Her classes are legendary in our region, and though my oldest has aged out of her class, I want the younger two to experience Miss Susy.
We also take a couple of PE classes a week, not to mention that we’ve also taken a few Science classes as well. We also have a chess class, and my oldest son may begin competing there as well.
As crazy a dilemma as this is, I’m actually thrilled to have it! I’m so excited that my newest children will get to have these amazing experiences tailored to the things that interest them! I’m embracing the challenge of constructing a curriculum that meets their needs and our budget.
Though I school “year ‘round,” we ramp down in the summer and pretty much just do the various Summer Reading Programs sponsored by the library and a few of the stores we love. This year, I can’t wait to ramp up again … I’ve got two new students! Woo hoo!
