Up to now, I’ve only had to deal with one child being sick at a time. But this weekend, all three children got that head cold that’s been making the rounds. It’s always been hard for me to contain my oldest son whenever he’s been ill, because he doesn’t realize he needs to rest, and his brother and sister are no different. Maybe all children are like this, but previously I only had one child, so this is all new to me!
For the last three days, it’s been like wrestling a slippery octopus to get the three of them to lie down! Further, they love playing with this one toy that records your voice and they love screaming into it at the top of their lungs to make silly sounds. This toy tops their list of “quiet time” activities! It does have a quiet aspect to it, if you just read along and speak softly into it – but that’s not the appeal of this particular toy for my three!
Then, yesterday, a friend of ours was in a desperate pinch as her daughter came down with the same cold and my friend had to go to work. So her daughter came over for the day, since my three were already sick. You can imagine all the “rest” the children got! Even watching videos got them amped up because the only videos they could all agree upon together were two of the musicals that are all the rage and they wanted to sing and dance to the music!
So, thankfully, today, all three seem to be doing much better and ready to resume their normal activities. Of course, now, not only are they feeling well, but now they are infused with a dose of adrenaline just thinking about the holidays!
