Should Your Adopted Children Watch “Get Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed?”

The movie “Get Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” will be opening on April 18, 2008 at theatres. Should you take your adopted children to see the movie? It is receiving a lot of publicity in Christian circles. Christians everywhere are being asked to go out and support the opening weekend of the movie by watching it themselves and taking friends. The official website even has several contests to encourage people to take friends to see the movie. We signed up for a contest that sends free expelled gear to people who agree to take five friends to the movie on the opening weekend. Apparently, some scientists, educators, and philosophers are being fired, ridiculed, and ostracized for challenging Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. Why would seeing the movie benefit adopted children?

Children adopted from foster care or from another country may be able to relate with being ostracized and ridiculed just for being different. It may give them new ideas for dealing with ridicule or at least help them to realize that they are not the only people ostracized from the in-groups. Maybe they will be able to seek out friends, when they realize that other people feel rejected too. If it doesn’t help or they are oblivious to the message, then at least they had a pleasant family outing. Who knows, maybe they, like Ben Stein in the movie will be spurred to action!

One of the advertisements says, “Stand up for academic freedom, see Get EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed, starring Ben Stein. He apparently journeys around the globe discovering scientists, educators, and philosophers who are being sought out and persecuted for their beliefs. These pillars of education are being persecuted for challenging Darwin's theory. They propose that life on this planet could be a part of some intelligent design and not random chance. The film is called, “thought-provoking” and challenges its watchers to ask questions like, “What else is being kept from us?” The debate between faith and science continues in our society. Making the wrong choice will have eternal consequences.

Ben travels the world on his quest, and learns an awe-inspiring truth that bewilders him, then angers him and then spurs him to action!
Ben realizes that he has been "Expelled", and that educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired for the "crime" of merely believing that there might be evidence of "design" in nature, and that perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance.

Children, 12 and under, apparently, "Won't get it." Also, they said it was more of a commentary than a movie, so for the younger ones, it was boring. Sorry.
