We’re going to be traveling next week, and
you get to come with us! That’s right! I will be blogging on the road, as we meet our children for the first time!
Even though this is a domestic adoption, it feels like an international one! All told, it will take us some 14 hours of travel time, three airplanes, two layovers and an hour’s drive in a rental car to get there!
The social worker handling the adoption told us today that she told the kids about our visit yesterday. The conversation went something like this:
Foster mom (to social worker): “Aren’t we having some guests come and visit us next week?”
Social worker (to foster mom): “Why, yes! You mean our very special friends?”
Social worker (to kids): “Well, who do you think it could be?”
Son: Sebastian!
Social worker: “That’s right! So, who else do you think might be coming with him?”
Daughter: “Marie and Nikko!”
Now, mind you, though we have talked to the kids just about every Sunday since November, and exchanged many letters, pictures, and care packages, we’ve never actually visited, and the kids know we live five states away. It absolutely blew me away that my son would know that Sebastian (my husband) and I, along with our son, are coming to visit! That was so sweet and so touching! The social worker told us the kids were really excited and happy at the prospect of a visit from us!
So, next week we head south of the Mason-Dixon line to witness my daughter’s graduation from Kindergarten. Though I won’t post any pictures of the kids (the adoption is not final yet), you’ll get to see the countryside and lots of other scenic touristy stuff, and vicariously share in our adventure! We’re finally going to meet our children and
you’ll be there!
