After going to bed for just a couple of hours at 1:00am, we woke up at 3:00am and went to the airport shortly after 4. Note to self: Night owls, do not attempt this at home! What was I thinking?

Remember all that yesterday about the wonders of the internet and e-ticketing? Scratch that! We still had to stand in line and check in (albeit it not a very long line!).

All three flights left and landed on time and were uneventful. For a domestic adoption, I still call this trip Adoption via the Trans-Siberian Express. Five states and 14 hours? Oooookay … However, it was my son’s first time flying and he loved it! He made a lot of new friends and had a blast. He is a sensitive soul and he does get attached to people and things easily, so he had a few moments where the transitions got a little dicey. But he pulled through, and really did seem to enjoy the flights.

We also had to deal with his Type 1 diabetes a bit. His blood sugars ran high all day. Most likely due to the adrenaline rush, but also climate, altitude and cabin pressure changes.

The first leg of the trip to Salt Lake City took about two hours, with a four hour layover. We totally did not expect to get snacks in-flight … or beverages … but we did! Woo hoo! And, while I’m here, questioning the oddities of travel … What is with the line at the Ladies Room? My son and hubby went in to the Men’s Room, and came out, and I had only moved up a notch or two in the line for the Ladies Room! But, I digress! The weather in Salt Lake City was rainy, but it seemed to be a mild rain. After de-planing (fancy airline talk for “we got off of the plane!”) we hit up Starbucks and watched the rain as we ate.

My son got a cool keychain of a jet plane, complete with jet-like sounds and it’s off to Minneapolis … Stay tuned …

Marie-you should have let us know you’d be in SLC for a few hours! Jen would have loved to see her Aunt Marie, Uncle Battie and cousin Nikko! We live only about 45 min from the airport-congrats on your adoption! Those are two lucky kids to be getting you and Seb for parents!

  2. Hi Mary!

We thought about it too late!! We thought maybe it was too far away! And we by-passed the SLC leg of it coming back & flew direct from MN to CA :( . Maybe on the next trip out!
