My oldest, for as long as I can remember, spontaneously bursts into prayer when he sees an ambulance or police car. He will invoke God and ask Him to watch over the person in the ambulance or ask that the person pulled over by the police car will make better and wiser choices.
Now, with our two newest children in tow, they will do whatever their “Big Bubbie” does, and now they break out in prayer whenever they see an ambulance or police car!
It’s uncanny how alike the children are. There is no way they could know that when my oldest was younger (around the ages they are now), that he would pray and pray about the same things over and over (so much so, we had to explain what “vain repetition” (Matthew 6:7) meant!
My youngest is shades of my oldest all over again! I cannot tell you how many times tonight my little one prayed, “Dear God, help the people not to go super duper fast. In Jesus’ name, Amen!” He saw a car pulled over to the side of the freeway, and off he went, praying this prayer several times until we reached our destination (a good five minutes away!).
My kids pray for their medicine. They pray for gum. They pray pretty much at the drop of a hat. Just mention you don’t feel well, or mention someone you know is ill, and they will pray. And pray. And pray some more. In fact, weeks later, you might hear an old request you have forgotten pop up in one of their impromptu prayers!
I’m so thankful to have children who love the Lord, and love praying to Him “without ceasing” (1 Tessalonians 5:17) - the first verse my oldest ever memorized! I pray they will continue to seek Him and His guidance throughout their whole lives.
