Carried Safely Home reads like a prayer. In this beautifully-written book, Kristin Swick Wong interweaves her personal faith journey with her family’s journey to adopt two boys from Vietnam.
Much like the experience I have when reading the Bible, I glean new insights from Kristin’s book every time I re-read it. I began reading "Carried Safely Home" nearly a year ago. I’d just reached page 106 of Kristin’s 166-page book when I was offered a contract to write my own adoption book.
Carried Safely Home got put on the back burner until this week, when Kristin e-mailed me about her new Web site (more on that in a minute). After perusing her site, I began skimming sections from her book that I’d highlighted months ago (and there are lots of highlighted sections).
My memory refreshed and my interest piqued, I continued reading and finished the book. Because Kristin offers so many insights into how our faith plays a critical role in adoption, I’ve decided that a mere book review won’t adequately convey the depth of Kristin’s writing. So, in the next few posts, I’m going to share some of Kristin’s thoughts from
Carried Safely Home. I believe you’ll feel as inspired and refreshed by her reflections as I have been.
But first, I want to tell you about Kristin and her husband Phil’s new Web site. It’s called
Adoption by Grace and it was created specifically to give Biblically-based emotional and spiritual support to adoptive families, professionals, and others who advocate for vulnerable children.
