Missing in Action

I know I’ve been scarce around these parts. Like many of my colleagues here at AdoptionBlogs, I’ve had that pesky bug that’s been going around. In our family, four of the five of us got some form or another of it. For me, however, due to my asthma, anything I get goes straight to my chest and I have a tough time breathing.

So, for roughly a week, I was wheezing up a storm. Not an easy task when you are homeschooling three and shuttling same to six outside classes a week! Thankfully, hubby, who has a somewhat flexible schedule, was able to do the heavy lifting for the first few days, at least. He took my daughter to her therapist appointment, and did all the cooking, bathing and cleaning! What a blessing!

After I was able to recover a bit, it was back to my hectic schedule and trying to “catch-up” on the days I was down and out. Crazy idea … you never really catch up … and more stuff is piling up behind you!

So, what did you miss during the week I was gone? With regard to my daughter, we are mere hours away from a full six weeks rage free! Still no tantrums, door slamming or property damage. I’m seeing improved manners, and her acknowledgment of the efforts of others toward her.

I cannot remember the last time one of his sibs report that my youngest was hitting! We couldn’t go a day without some sort of hitting issue. We’re working on the lying, but we’ve seen success with no hitting!

In my article about traditions and rituals, I mentioned that we have a special day (or two) each year to celebrate courage. We’ve been making plans for the special days. One of those days (unbeknownst to the children) is coming up this weekend – we’re taking a day trip to the Big Aquarium nearby. Our children hail from the South and have expressed a strong desire to see a beach and the ocean. Well, this big aquarium just so happens to be in a little resort town that has sweet bit of coastline right on the ocean!

The other days we’ve been planning take place in November and December respectively. One is another day to celebrate courage, and takes the form of a trip to see one of their favorite TV characters in a live show. The December special outing is a homeschool field trip to see a professional matinee production of The Nutcracker.

So, yeah, catch-up – ha ha! Obviously, I’m on to the next thing(s)!
