Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1)

Unless you don’t have teens or tweens, or if you live in a remote part of the Earth without access to news, you will, no doubt, have heard about the controversy plaguing super-teen Miley Cyrus and her squeaky clean image.

As with many popular superstars, Miley finds herself in a situation where pictures of questionable taste have surfaced, causing the teen great discomfort and embarrassment.

Miley is one of the few mega-watt stars that seems to have her head in the right place thanks to homespun values, her religious faith, and the love and support of her parents.

From all I can gather, Miley’s troubles began during a photo shoot for Vanity Fair, with noted photographer Annie Leibovitz. The pop stars parents, teacher, and grandmother were all present for the shoot. Her parents left before the very last shot. The pictures seem to suggest that Miley isn’t clothed, when, according to all present, that was not the case, and she was fully clothed.

Miley has issued a statement to the press expressing her sorrow, dismay and embarrassment.

Because of her strong religious faith, Miley is one of the few stars I feel comfortable having my daughter emulate. So, what do we learn from this? Do I ban Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus from our home?

I think the way Miley has gone about the difficult task of reparation shows what she is made of. My daughter is not going to meet anyone who is absolutely perfect. That Person has come to this world once in the form of Jesus Christ and is now at the right hand of the Father. So, it’s healthy for her to see how people handle the difficult issues in life.

Miley appears to have learned an exceptionally valuable lessons. Let’s see what she does with this new found experience. Her parents have also learned something too. Not everyone is going to feel about their daughter as they do, and you can’t trust that others will have their own altruistic motives when dealing with a potential cash-cow. That sounds blunt, but when we assume that anyone is going to care for our children as we do, we err. Many a parent has been aghast to find their trust in a youth minister, or trusted adult has been inappropriate with their child. Parents cannot delegate their responsibility for the welfare of their child to anyone else.

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert, your adversary, the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8)

I hope Miley will come out of this stronger than ever. I hope her parents learn from this as well. She seems like a sweet girl, and can influence others with her strong faith.
