Hubby is an independent contractor, and as such, has pretty flexible. He came home early today and took the kids to Spanish class, so that I could get some rest.
The kids loved having dad take them to class. Because of the flexible nature of what he does, they get to see him more often than most dads who work more traditional hours, but still, they were thrilled to hang out with Daddy for awhile today.
From the moment our oldest was born, my husband has been a full co-parent. Though he works full time, he manages not only to make time for the children, but for me as well, so that I can have a little bit of time to re-group.
Because I homeschool the kids and am with them all day, my husband really does do all he can to ensure I don’t crash and burn. Many times he will come home and make dinner, or take the kids to the library. Other times, he’ll encourage me to lie down, or to go to my favorite coffee house for a cuppa.
I know he’s just as tired as I am … I know he works just as hard as I do … Still it’s refreshing to have someone acknowledge and appreciate the effort put forth.
Then, there are the many things he does for our kids. He makes little videos for them, and mixes CDs for them to listen to at night. He makes sure he spends some quality time with them each day, and really takes an interest in the things they are doing, whether it relates to school work or something they’ve created at play that day.
So, today on Love Thursday, I’m acknowledging my special hubby – a great dad – and all the other fathers out there that make it possible for moms like me to do all that they do!
