My boys love each other. They are absolutely crazy about each other. From the moment they met until right this very second, they have a bond that is incredibly strong and can only grow stronger with time.
This afternoon, after my youngest had just woken up from his nap, the boys snuggled up with each other. While his younger brother was shaking off his slumber, my oldest son regaled him with tales of how much we wanted to adopt him. He told him how much we loved him. He told him best of all, that even when we die, they will still be brothers (in Christ)!
They cuddle together, they play together; they say silly things to each other…Things I don’t quite understand, being an only child myself. But it thrills me to see these two glom onto each other, and know they will likely be best friends for life. They couldn’t be closer if they were born to the same set of parents, and it’s a testament to the power God has in creating ties that bind us to one another in His family.
Their sister isn’t left out – they clearly love her, and she adores them. It’s just that being boys, they are hardwired the same way. Though she can play trains and cars right along with them, she’s also very girly. The boys totally “get” each other and don’t have to “translate” or filter any girl-speak or emotionalism with each other.
I love watching my boys together. I love seeing how demonstrative and affectionate they are with each other. Like last week’s
Love Thursday installment, I love watching how they look out for each other, and take care of each other. My oldest loves helping his younger brother do things. My youngest watches out for his older brother as it relates to his medical condition. It’s a beautiful thing to behold.
Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself. (1 Samuel 18:1)
