The December 2006 issue of
Adoptive Families magazine includes some news tidbits of interest to parents adopting internationally:
USCIS Provides Contact Info for Adopting Parents
Each field office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), formerly known as INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) now has an e-mail address devoted solely to international adoptions.
The URL in
Adoptive Families is outdated since USCIS has redesigned their Website since the magazine went to press. To locate the e-mail address for your state’s field office visit
http://tinyurl.com/yn9uw9. When you find your field office, scroll down a little and you’ll see specific contact information for adoption.
General information about orphan adoptions is available at the
USCIS website or you can call USCIS Customer Service at 1-800-375-5283.
Adoptees from Taiwan Can Access Birth Family Info
People adopted from Taiwan (either domestically or abroad) may now apply for information about their biological relatives from the
Child and Juvenile Adoption Information Center. Adopees under age 20 need their parent’s consent.
