Road Trip: Day Three (and an Apology!) - Scary Moments

We had really wonky connectivity Day Three and afterward, so I wasn’t able to post “as it happened.” So, three days later, I’ll have to rely on jet-lagged memory to reconstruct the days. So, here’s the recap:

Wednesday was a relatively uneventful day after our scary start. We woke up really early because of my youngest son’s coughing fits. He has a really acute sinus condition, and it produced so much mucus that he threw up. Hello parenthood of three!

After frantic calls to the foster mom, who reassured me this is common with my son, she did call in to his pediatrician and got his other meds, which, she assured me, really do the trick!

It was my uncle’s last day with us, so we all went to lunch and then parted “for now” with the expectation that we will see each other when finalization time comes. The kids really loved him and the family and it was a great time of visiting.

Off to the superstore again! Woo hoo! That’s pretty much what we do when we’re at home, so on the road was no different. We needed to pick up a couple of things for my daughter’s graduation, and she begged for flip-flops. She had never had any, and that was just the epitome of girl-dom according to her!

Evening saw us driving about an hour south to Bible study. Though there is a congregation of the church we attend in the town we were staying in, we knew that the members where our kids attend would want to meet us since they all knew about the adoption plans. They proudly pulled us around by the hand introducing us to people and showing off their classrooms. I picked up the new meds from their foster mom for my son, and we had dessert at their home. At their home, as with the church building, they showed off their rooms and toys. Then, another hour’s commute back “home” for another bedtime battle.

Bedtime, did get incrementally better, but we did recognize they were in an unfamiliar house with and unfamiliar routine, so though boundaries were set and some tears shed, it all worked out!

After bedtime, hubby and I made the decision to tell the kids the true purpose of our visit the next morning, in order to give them a chance to process it and ask questions before we leave them Friday evening.
