One of my readers suggested that it’s important to keep your child’s “life book” up-to-date and full of pictures and history.
I know what a life book is but I must admit that I haven’t been very diligent about creating one. My efforts to date include:
- Buying a sterling silver photo album (the kind with the frame on the cover) and inserting baby pictures. I plan to give each son his album when he goes off to college or otherwise moves out on his own.
- Creating a 3-ring binder for each son in which I put letters from his birth family, periodic letters that I write to each child and the assorted greeting cards they’ve received.
- Keeping a computerized file of the funny things my kids have said over the years.
- As for photos, I have an entire box full that I haven’t put in photo albums for about 9 years.
I guess these things count as a life book of sorts, although they’re certainly not of the Creative Memories variety. My son’s birth mom would be so disappointed in me — she’s a Creative Memories fan and is always making ultra-fancy photo albums (the amount of work that goes into those things is downright depressing!).
She far outdoes me at keeping a life book of our son — every so often she’ll ask me to send updated photos that she can add to “his” book. This Christmas she finally got tired of asking for updated photos and she took him to a professional photographer herself!
But I digress. I need input from you, readers.
Do you keep a life book?
What does it “look” like?
What are the contents of your child’s life book?
What are some good resources (online and otherwise) for creating life books?
