1. Not everyone who wears the label “Christian” is following the Bible. Jesus does teach that concept in Mathew 7:21-23:

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

2. Not every agency out there is ethical, whether they wear the label “Christian” or not! See our Hoping to Adopt post on this.

3. And, I say this one to you in love: God is not the author of evil. Bad things *do* happen, and yes, God allows it, but it is not always His choosing. Some unethical people (like those you dealt with at the agency), as free moral agents, knowingly and willfully chose wrong (from your description…I do not know the facts). Please do not ascribe this evil to God, but rather the true author of it….Satan. For more on that see Don’t Underestimate the Adversary

The Bible says to “prove all things” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). If someone tells you something in a religious sense, make sure the Bible backs it up. Anyone (a “Christian”, “pastor” “Reverend”, no matter who) can say anything .. only the Bible is true. Trust it, and trust God alone.

My-Sara, I do hope you are eventually able to make peace with this situation, and with God. I hope you are able to forgive the wrongdoers.

I really appreciate the Christian viewpoint. So often, people scoff at the idea of being “called” to adopt. It was certainly that way for us (no coincidence, only God-incidents!) and it’s so nice to be able to share that with someone who understands that it is ALL adoption-related or not, about following what He calls you to do
